Hey all! I had a hankering for a veggie burger after finding a recipe on Pinterest for these Gluten Free Potato Buns. (The buns came out great by the way!) So here we are, one tall mountain of deliciousness later… I have for you black bean mushroom burgers!
Please don’t try a double patty burger! I did that mainly for the photo, haha! See pictures below for normal sized burgers. 🙂
These are really simple to make. All it takes is a bit of sauteed veggies, black beans, and some oats and masa flour to bind it all together. Then, they get baked in the oven! Honestly, the best part about veggie burgers is being able to just bake them. I love grilled veggie burgers, but what if you want one in the middle of winter? No thank you, not gonna happen here in Wisconsin.
Can you tell I had a bit of fun with the burger combinations? 🙂 You can top your burger with whatever you want!
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- ½ medium sized onion, diced
- ½ cup diced carrots
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 8 oz baby bella mushrooms, roughly chopped
- 2 15-oz cans of black beans (about 2 cups), drained and rinsed
- 1 cup + ½ cup GF quick oats
- ½ cup masa flour
- 1 tbsp vegan Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- salt and pepper to taste

- vegan cheese slices
- sliced tomato
- sliced onion
- Preheat the oven to 375 F.
- In a skillet, saute the green bell pepper, onion, carrots and garlic in the olive oil over medium heat. Cook until all the vegetables are cooked through.
- Add the mushrooms and cook until the moisture releases and they become soft and tender.
- In a food processor, add the cooked vegetables and all the ingredients from the black beans to the salt and pepper - EXCEPT for ½ cup of oats. Just add the 1 cup!
- Process until a thick pasty dough forms. Manually stir in the ½ cup of oats. The dough should be sticky but mold-able. If its too dry, add some water. If it's too wet, add more oats.
- Use a ½ cup measuring cup to scoop out balls of the mixture. Form them into patties and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake the patties for 15 minutes on one side, and then flip over and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Let them cool for 5 minutes.
