Easy TVP Taco Meat

A taco filling made from TVP (textured vegetable protein). Easy and quick to make for when you're in desperate need of a taco!

  • ½ small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 3 tbsp taco seasoning (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 tsp chipotle pepper powder (can sub smoked paprika)
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 1 cup dry TVP

Optional ingredients

  • warm tortillas
  • refried beans
  • shredded lettuce
  • salsa
  • shredded cheese
  • sour cream


  • Saute the onion and garlic with the oil over medium heat until the onions become translucent.
  • Add the vegetable broth, and seasonings, bring to a low boil.
  • Stir in the TVP and reduce the heat to low.
  • Once the TVP absorbs the majority of the liquid, remove from heat. It should be moist but not watery.
  • Serve with warmed tortillas, refried beans, and salsa.
